Kansas City Royals utility player Tyler Tolbert tied the MLB record of 12 hits in 12 at-bats during the team's 16-11 win over the New York Mets on Tuesday.

Tolbert, 28, launched a two-run home run in the second inning off Kodai Senga to tie the record before hitting four-straight singles.

He had an opportunity in the top of the ninth inning to break the record, but couldn't get it done. He now joins Jose Miranda (Twins - 2024), Walt Dropo (Tigers - 1952), Pinky Higgins (Red Sox - 1938), and Johnny Kling (Cubs - 1902).

Tolbert's home run during his first at-bat made it back-to-back games with at least one, bringing his season total up to two.

He broke the Royals' franchise record when he recorded his ninth hit in nine straight at-bats with a single to right.

Following his home run and four singles, he brought his season batting average up to .396, along with the two home runs, five RBI, and nine stolen bases through 32 games this season.

Tolbert is just a day removed from recording a five-hit game.

Despite being 28, he is in just his second big-league season. In 2025, Tolbert hit .280 with one home run, six RBI, 21 stolen bases, and a .701 OPS through 64 games.

The Alabama native was slashing .333/.383/.429 through 31 games in Triple-A this season and has now turned into a major bright spot on a struggling Royals team.

Kansas City are 38-54 this season, sitting just one game out of last place in the American League in front of the Los Angeles Angels (36-55).
