Barcelona have confirmed the signing of Newcastle and England winger Anthony Gordon for a reported 80 million euros (£69m) on a five-year deal.

Gordon has caught the eye since joining Newcastle from Everton in 2023 and recently enjoyed a productive European campaign, registering 10 goals and two assists in the UEFA Champions League.

His Premier League form didn't quite hit the same heights, with the 25-year-old netting just six times in 2025/26, but his overall tenure at St James' Park was successful, with 39 goals and 28 assists from 152 appearances.

The winger was a key part of a huge period of growth for the Saudi-backed Magpies and played a starring role in twice qualifying for the Champions League and winning the EFL Cup - the club's first trophy for over 50 years.

The England international is due to compete at this summer's World Cup and will be pleased to have any speculation over his future put to bed before the tournament has started.

Three Lions teammate Marcus Rashford had spent last season on loan at Barcelona, but there now appears to be some doubt over his temporary move becoming a permanent one.

Gordon staged a surprise by speaking Spanish at his unveiling, showing just how long this move has been in the making.

"I was excited to play for Barca (since) I was three years of age," Anthony said, fielding parts of the media conference in fluent Spanish to the surprise of journalists.

"I wanted to speak Spanish because, as a kid, I believed I would play football for Barca, believe it or not. I have a physio in Newcastle, and we spoke every day, and I told him 'One day I'll play for Barca, so I want to learn Spanish.'"

Earlier this month, Newcastle boss Eddie Howe admitted Gordon may have played his final game for the club when the winger was linked with Bayern Munich, saying there were "discussions that potentially might be happening".

However, it was Barcelona who swooped to sign Gordon, who is part of England's World Cup squad.

"To play with Lamine (Yamal) and the rest of the players is very exciting for me," Gordon said. "The more players with quality you have around you, the better you're going to be. These players are at the very top level for a reason, they're the best players in the world.

"They have so much quality, and I'd seen this when we played them at St James's Park. We could not switch the ball."

Newcastle drew with Barcelona 1-1 in the Champions League round of 16 first leg at home this season, before losing 8-3 to the Spaniards on aggregate.
