Baltimore Ravens General Manager Eric DeCosta mentioned that a contract extension for star quarterback Lamar Jackson is in an 'introductory stage'.

Back during a press conference in March, Ravens head coach John Harbaugh mentioned the possibility of an extension, stating, "There's been conversations about that internally, I know. How far along that is or whatever, I don't know."

Now, it seems like progress is slowly but surely making its way for an extension to become reality for both parties.

“We’ve had some conversations before the draft, after the draft, in person last week,” said DeCosta on the BMore Baseball Podcast. "I think we’re in the introductory sort of stage of looking at what an extension might look like.”

Jackson has a salary cap hit of $43.5 million this upcoming season, but drastically sky rockets to $74.5 million in 2026 and 2027.

"When Lamar gets paid, he's going to be the highest-paid player in football, just like he was last time," said Harbaugh during the league meetings earlier this year. "I think every contract he signs till he decides to hang up his cleats, he's going to be that guy."

The extension talks come shortly after the team signed standout wide receiver Rashod Bateman to a three-year, $36.75 million extension that'll keep him on the Ravens through 2029.

Bateman posted 45 receptions, 756 yards, and nine touchdowns last season - all career highs.

Baltimore's 2025 season came to an end after losing to the Buffalo Bills during the AFC Divisional round of the playoffs. They finished with a 12-5 record, winning the AFC North division for the second straight year.
