In major NFL news on Friday, the San Francisco 49ers have extended quarterback Brock Purdy's contract for an extra five years, with $265 million.

The deal will keep Purdy with the team until the end of the 2030 season. He is also guaranteed $181 million of that $265 million. Having entered into the final year of his rookie contract this year, the 49ers were always keen in holding onto their 25-year-old starting quarterback.

Purdy was selected 262nd in the 2022 NFL Draft, dubbing him the infamous "Mr. Irrelevant" tag. However, since taking over the starting role during that same year, there has been no looking back. The former Iowa State Cyclones took them to the NFC Championship in 2022, before going one better in his first full campaign as starter a year later. They ended up losing Super Bowl LVIII to the Kansas City Chiefs.

The 49ers are coming off a rough year, where injuries derailed their 2024 season. They finished 6-11 in the NFC West, failing to qualify for the playoffs.

So far in his career with San Francisco, Purdy has a record of 27-15 as a starter, throwing for 67.5 percent and 9,518 yards. He has 70 passing touchdowns in the regular season and postseason, in comparison to 28 interceptions. Also in his short career, Purdy has a Pro Bowl selection from 2023, where he finished fourth in the MVP votes.
