Rees will be filling the OC vacancy after the team fired Ken Dorsey shortly after the regular season ended. The decision came shortly after the team interviewed Rees on January 9th.
Rees was the offensive coordinator for Alabama in 2023, a year in which they won the SEC Championship. He was previously the quarterbacks coach at Notre Dame from 2017 to 2019 before being promoted to the team's offensive coordinator position in 2020. He left in 2023 for the Bama position.
The Browns finished the season with a 3-14 record and the 28th ranked offence. They had the worst scoring offence in the league averaging 15.2 points per game, the lowest for the team since 2017 (14.6), and the least points scored with 258, also the lowest since 2017 (234).
Cleveland was tied with the Tennessee Titans for the most turnovers (34) this season. They led the league in interceptions (23) and were fourth in fumbles lost (11).
Dorsey took over as the offensive coordinator for the Browns this season following two successful years in the same position for the Buffalo Bills (2022-2023). He started out his career in the NFL as a scout for the Carolina Panthers in 2011 and was a quarterback coach for eight years (Panthers, Bills) before being promoted to offensive coordinator in Buffalo.
The Browns officially have the second overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, with the Titans ahead of them at number one. They enter the offseason with around $21 million in cap space, according to Over The Cap.
