Delaware State is hiring former NFL wide receiver DeSean Jackson (38) as the school's new football head coach, according to Victory Formation Media and ESPN.

Jackson, a three-time Pro Bowler and Super Bowl champion, will be taking over a Delaware State team that went 1-11 this past season and finished dead last in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (FCS) under now-former head coach Lee Hull.

The trend continues for former NFL players becoming head coaches of FCS HBCUs (historically black colleges and universities). Recently, Mid-Eastern Athletic rival Norfolk State (4-8) hired former NFL quarterback Michael Vick as their head coach as well.

The trend began to take off after the late success Jackson State had under former coach and NFL Hall of Famer Deion Sanders. Now, the two former NFL stars will be going at next season as head coaches.

Jackson spent 15 years in the NFL and wracked up 11,263 receiving yards and 51 receiving touchdowns on 641 receptions. The former 49th overall pick also had 1,315 punt return yards with four touchdowns, including his iconic runback against the New York Giants
