The Houston Texans signed running back Nick Chubb (29) to a one-year, $2.5 million deal on Monday, according to multiple reports.

Chubb can max out the deal at $5 million with incentives.

Multiple NFL insiders posted on Sunday that the Texans were closing in on a deal with the former Cleveland Browns running back.

Now, the four-time Pro Bowler is heading to Houston, where he'll join quarterback CJ Stroud as the team looks to rebound after last year's Divisional Round loss to the Kansas City Chiefs

Chubb, drafted 35th overall in the 2018 NFL Draft, spent the first seven years of his career with the Browns.

After posting 996 rushing yards in his rookie year, Chubb went on to post four straight 1,000-yard seasons. He set a career high in 2022 with 1,525 rushing yards paired with 12 touchdowns on the ground (also tying a career high).

His insane season would earn him AP Second-Team All-Pro honours, which would mark the first time in his career.

Unfortunately, Chubb has been dealing with injuries the past two seasons. In 2023, Chubb only played in two games before receiving season-ending knee surgery on his ACL.

However, after posting his offseason workouts, it looks like he's back to form.

Upon returning in 2024, playing in only eight games, Chubb ended up fracturing his foot in Week 15's matchup against the Chiefs and was even a candidate for Comeback Player of the Year.

Chubb has been a dominant running back for the majority of his career. Now he heads to Houston averaging 5.1 yards per carry with 6,843 total rushing yards and 51 rushing touchdowns.

The veteran back will be splitting carries with an already solid group led by Joe Mixon and Dameon Pierce, giving the Texans outstanding depth if Chubb can remain healthy.

Houston ranked 15th last season in rushing yards per game (112.3) and took home the AFC South divisional title after finishing the regular season 10-7.
