In what is surprising NFL news, the Las Vegas Raiders are getting rid of defensive tackle Christian Wilkins. This comes just one year after he signed for the team.

Wilkins had signed a four-year, $110 million contract in March of last year. In that contract came a guaranteed $84.75 million. However, he suffered through injury for much of his time in Las Vegas. It became so bad, that he was placed on the physically unable to perform list just last Friday.

The 29-year-old's injury came against the Raiders' AFC West rivals Denver Broncos back in October, which they went on to lose 34-18. Wilkins suffered a fracture to his left foot, resulting in his season coming to an abrupt end.

According to the NFL Network, the Raiders had requested that Wilkins underwent surgery on his foot. However, the former Clemson Tiger went against the team's wishes after listening to multiple opinons.

In a statement, the Raiders said: "We have decided that it is in the best interests of the organization to move on from Christian Wilkins and he has been informed of his release from the team.

"This franchise has a Commitment to Excellence on and off the field. With no clear path or plan for future return to play from Christian, this transaction is necessary for the entire organization to move forward and prepare for the new season."

Having joined the Raiders after five seasons with the Miami Dolphins, Wilkins ended up with 17 tackles and two sacks in five matches, all of which he started. He was selected 13th overall in the 2019 NFL Draft by the Dolphins.
