Barrett will have to clear waivers and sign with another team in order to play this season. If a team claims him, he will be ineligible to play. The Baltimore, Maryland native signed a one-year, $9 million deal with the Dolphins but has yet to play a game this year after announcing his retirement in July.
Barrett tried to be reinstated on November 26th but the Dolphins denied him. The two-time Pro Bowler and two-time Super Bowl champion is now going on the market, one way or another. But he said, "There is just one team" and that he's played for them before when detailing his perfect scenario to come back to the gridiron.
The only two teams that would be are either the Tampa Bay Buccaneers or the Denver Broncos.
Barrett could provide a Super Bowl contender with some pass-rushing depth. In 2019, Barrett led the NFL in sacks with 19.5, becoming a 2nd Team All-Pro. He has 59 sacks, 125 quarterback hits, and 400 tackles in 131 games (85 starts) throughout his career.
The Miami Dolphins (7-8) are still in the hunt for a Wild Card spot with just two weeks to go. But they will need to win their remaining games against the Cleveland Browns and New York Jets, plus have a bunch of help, in order to make the playoffs.
