The Detroit Lions have signed quarterback Teddy Bridgewater (32) to a deal to finish out the season with the team, according to head coach Dan Campbell.

Bridgewater originally announced his retirement from the NFL at the end of the 2023 season and then became the head coach of his alma mater, Miami Northwestern High School, this year, which he just led to a Class 3A Florida state championship.

Now, the quarterback is reuniting with the Lions in the hopes of finally obtaining a Super Bowl ring.

The former 32nd overall pick of the 2014 NFL Draft spent nine years in the NFL before making his return this season. Bridgewater, in a career riddled with injuries, only played a full season once throughout his career.

He went 33-32 as a starter for the Minnesota Vikings, New Orleans Saints, Carolina Panthers, Denver Broncos, Miami Dolphins, and Lions.

The former Pro Bowler and fan favourite due to his down-to-earth personality has 15,120 passing yards and 75 passing touchdowns over the course of his career with 844 rushing yards and 11 rushing touchdowns.

There's no telling if Bridgewater will be the official backup for starter Jared Goff as the Lions pursue their first-ever Super Bowl victory. Head coach Campbell mentioned that it "has nothing to do" with a lack of confidence in current backup Hendon Hooke, but rather because the playoffs are "a different world."
