The defending champion in the King Cup invitational tournament, Anders Antonsen, is ready for the final for the second successive year, where he is chasing the trophy and not least a prize check of 415.000 US dollars.
On Friday, Antonsen won the opening match – and the quarter-final – over junior world champion Liu Yangmingyu from China, and on Saturday the Dane also managed to beat world number four, Jonatan Christie, in the semi-final.
The two world stars also met at the season finals before Christmas, where Anders Antonsen won in two sets, and although the outcome on Saturday was the same, Antonsen faced a more stern challenge from Christie.
After a convincing first set, Christie had two set points leading 20-18 in the second set, but then Antonsen was able to raise his game at the decisive moment and win the game in two sets.
In Sunday's grand final Antonsen will face none other than world number one Shi Yuqi of China, who won his semi-final in straight sets over France's Alex Lanier.
The invitational tournament, organised by two-time Olympic champion Lin Dan, has attracted several top names and is now in its second edition.
