Before today, only marathon runners Suldan Hassan, Samuel Tsegay and Ebba Tulu Chala had been confirmed for the championships.
Unsurprisingly, 12-time pole vault world record holder and current world champion Armand Duplantis is one of the 14 new additions, fresh from raising the bar of his personal best to 6.28m in Stockholm earlier this month.
At the same Diamond League meeting, Andreas Almgren set a new European 5000m record in front of his home crowd, while Samuel Pihlstrom took the win in the 1500m having already set a new national record this year. Both are now is aiming for a first major medal.
Two years ago in Budapest, Daniel Stahl took gold in the discus and Perseus Karlstrom took silver in the 20km walk - both are back this year and looking to medal again.
Medallists from the European Indoor Championships earlier this year, Wictor Petersson and Engla Nilsson, will also be travelling to Japan for the shot put and high jump, respectively.
The 2025 World Athletics Championships take place from 13-21 September 2025 and are returning to Japan for the first time since Osaka hosted in 2007, and to Tokyo for the first time since 1991.
