The Atlanta Braves acquired pitcher Tyler Kinley from the Colorado Rockies in a trade deal on Wednesday.

In return, the Rockies are receiving pitching prospect Austin Smith.

Kinley is tossing a 5.66 earned run average this season in 49 games, giving up 30 runs on 42 hits in 47.2 innings with 51 strikeouts and 27 walks. Batters are hitting .230 off the 34-year-old relief pitcher this season.

Kinley's contract has a club option for 2026 if the Braves decide to keep him. If they do, he'll be under contract for another year until he's a restricted free agent following the 2026 season.

The 26-year-old Smith is having a rough go at it in Double-A this season, posting a 5.40 ERA in 18 games as a reliever. He's given up 12 earned runs on 20 hits through 20 innings in Double-A, striking out 21 and walking 11 with batters hitting .256 against him.

Smith, a former 18th-round pick in the 2021 draft, has yet to finish a season with an ERA below 4.00. However, he had a solid 2.38 ERA in High-A ball before being called up.

So the Rockies continue to get younger.
