Anders Antonsen showed promising form and had no trouble dismantling the former World No. 2, the Indonesian Anthony Ginting, when the Dane cruised to a 21-7, 21-19 win in the first round of the Denmark Open tournament.

It wasn't long ago that Ginting was part of the top in the men's singles. For most of 2023, Indonesia was ranked second in the world rankings.

But in the past year, Ginting has been plagued by injuries and has since had difficulty reaching his former level.

It was also visible in Wednesday's match against Antonsen. Ginting showed small glimpses of his former top level, but he had difficulty finding stability and settling into his game when Antonsen turned up the pace.

As the first set progressed, Antonsen became more and more dominant, and he ended the set by winning nine successive points.

Ginting regained some of his previous level from the beginning of the second set, and this time he was able to withstand the pressure from Antonsen to a greater degree.

At the same time, Antonsen became more frustrated and had difficulty finding the loopholes in the Indonesian defense in the same way as before.

Ahead 19-16, Ginting looked like someone who was about to force a third set, but then Antonsen tightened his grip on the match.

With five successive points, Antonsen secured a victory in two sets when he converted his first match point to secure his further progress in the tournament.
