Anders Antonsen is the only Danish player left in the semi-finals at the Super 1000 tournament Indonesia Open.
On Friday, the third-seeded Dane beat Cheuk Yiu Lee from Hong Kong 23-21, 21-9 after a tenacious and solid effort.
The first set turned into an increbly close encounter where you couldn't blame the two players if they were affected by the enormous sound inferno in Djakarta as a match with Indonesian participation took place on the court next to them.
"I am insanely happy about the victory. I was better today, and I never pulled the handbrake halfway through", said Antonsen to TV 2 Sport after the match and acknowledged that the first set was very decisive.
"Against a type like Lee, it was decisive. He grows when things work for him, and he loses his head a bit when it doesn't."
In Saturday's battle for a place in the final, the Chinese world runner-up, Shi Yuqi, to whom Antonsen has lost three major finals in one year, including last year's final in the Indonesia Open, awaits.
On Friday, in a grueling first set, Antonsen was for long periods the most enterprising player forcing his opponent well around the court, which sucked strength and energy out of Lee during the decisive duels.
In the second set, Antonsen kept his focus and maintained a high level of play, while Lee gradually lost faith in things as he realized that the Dane was clearly the best.
Denmark was also represented in another semi-final on Friday, but fifth-seeded Jesper Toft and Amalie Magelund lost to second-seeded Chen Tang Jie and Toh Ee Wei of Malaysia.
The Danes won the first set and had a great start to the third set, but lost 21-17, 16-21, 14-21.
