Anders Antonsen survived a match point against the Republic of Ireland's Nhat Nguyen, when he booked his ticket for the third round of the Badminton World Championships in a three-set epic 21-23, 21-19, 23-21.

Anders Antonsen trailed for much of the third and deciding set but ultimately prevailed at the very end, securing his spot in the third round of the World Badminton Championships.

Facing Ireland's Nhat Nguyen, the Aarhus native appeared uncomfortable and committed several uncharacteristic errors throughout the match, yet he won a nail-biting contest 21-23, 21-19, 23-21.

The Irishman held the upper hand and had several match points, but after winning a crucial video challenge, Antonsen turned the tide and won the long, grueling match against the World No. 25.

The first set was both physically and mentally demanding for both players, and it proved to be an incredibly tight affair.

Antonsen played the better badminton for much of the set but squandered a set point while leading 20-19.

Instead, the Irishman snatched the opening set following a long rally of 60 shots that gave him a 22-21 lead. Nguyen then served out the set after 35 minutes of play.

The second set didn't start well either, with the Aarhus native falling behind 7-11. However, the momentum shifted briefly in his favor.

Anders Antonsen won seven consecutive points and suddenly looked well-positioned to secure a convincing set victory. It didn't turn out to be convincing, though; he appeared to lose his grip on the match again before managing to force the contest into a third set.

In the decider, Antonsen was in trouble once more, constantly trailing the Irishman.

Nevertheless, the match became a thriller in the closing stages as Antonsen managed to level the score at 16-16. The final exchanges were incredibly tight, and the Dane appeared to be beaten.

But just when things looked incredibly bleak, he won a challenge and swung the momentum in his favor during the decisive points.
