Newly signed Boston Red Sox third baseman Alex Bregman (30) sounded off on Tuesday about the current situation in the Red Sox clubhouse regarding his position and how Rafael Devers (28) is refusing to play anywhere else.

"I think everybody here believes in their abilities," Bregman said Tuesday. "I think all of us believe that if we all put together a good effort this season, we have a really good chance of being a winning baseball team. I can only talk for myself but I'll play wherever helps the team win."

As someone who won a Gold Glove last season for the Houston Astros, Bregman is certainly making a name for himself as he tries to take the high road in an already brewing situation to the start of the Red Sox spring training.

Devers, who played third base for the Red Sox last season, wasn't too happy at the thought of Bregman coming in and stealing his hot corner.

Even Red Sox first baseman Triston Casas believes that third base belongs to Devers, saying he's one of the best in the game despite being ranked dead last out of 103 third basemen last season in defensive runs saved (-62) and being tied for the most errors on the Red Sox last season with 12.

Although Bregman had 10 errors himself for the Astros in 2024, he also led the American League in both putouts (103) and assists (242) in 142 games (also AL leader). Meanwhile, Devers had 102 putouts and 185 assists in 103 games

However, the big stat is that Devers had a .960 fielding percentage to Bregman's AL-leading .972 percentage.

The thought of Bregman at second is an odd one considering he's only played at the position nine times over the course of his nine-year career. He's played 995 at third base and 129 at shortstop.

"I'm super excited to just be (Dever's) teammate," said Bregman. "He's a great player. I think everybody in this clubhouse is worried about winning. Whatever it takes to help the team win, that's all I'm focused on. I'll play wherever A.C. (Alex Cora) tells me to play."

On top of that, Red Sox top prospect Kristian Campbell, who also has outfield experience, has been working out strictly at second base since spring training began.

So it'll be interesting to see how the infield is positioned come Opening Day for the Red Sox.
