Los Angeles Dodgers relief pitcher Evan Phillips will undergo Tommy John surgery, effectively ending his 2025 season, according to Manager Dave Roberts.

Phillips was considered one of the best relievers in baseball since joining the Dodgers in 2021 when the team claimed him off waivers.

In seven games this season, the 30-year-old veteran hadn't given up a single run while striking out six batters in 5.2 innings pitched.

His breakout year came in 2022 when Phillips tossed a stellar 1.14 earned run average in 63 innings while giving up just 33 hits and striking out 71 batters.

In the following year, he shared the team's closer role and went on to record 24 saves in 27 opportunities. Then, in 2024, before Michael Kopech became the team's closer, Phillips went 18-22 in saves with a 3.62 ERA.

Unfortunately for Phillips, the arm problems started at the end of last season when he started to experience fatigue. The Dodgers later scratched him for the World Series against the New York Yankees, but he still earned the ring nonetheless.

Phillips was diagnosed with a torn rotator cuff this past offseason and didn't make his 2025 season debut until April 19th against the Texas Rangers

He is now the fourth Dodgers pitcher this year to receive Tommy John surgery, with the other three being Emmet Sheehan, Kyle Hurt, and River Ryan.

The Dodgers currently have 14 players on the IL - every single one of them is a pitcher.
