The Kansas City Royals agreed to a minor league deal with utility player Cavan Biggio (24) on Sunday.

Biggio slashed .197/.314/.303/.617 last year with one five home runs and 19 RBI in 78 games. The former highly sought-out prospect played last year for the Toronto Blue Jays, where he spent the previous five seasons, the Los Angeles Dodgers, and the Atlanta Braves

Biggio, son of Hall of Famer Craig Biggio, was originally a 29th-round pick by the Philadelphia Phillies in the 2013 MLB Draft but decided to play in college at Notre Dame. In 2016, the Blue Jays took him in the fifth round of the draft, rising through their system as one of their best prospects.

During his rookie year in 2019, Biggio hit .234/.364/.429/.793 for the Jays with 16 home runs, 48 RBI, and 14 stolen bases. He finished that season fifth in AL Rookie of the Year voting. Unfortunately, Biggio hasn't been able to replicate those numbers in the past five years.

The Royals will be getting someone who can practically play anywhere in the field though as they look to possibly bolster their fielding and add some depth to an already solid lineup.
