Eintracht Frankfurt kicked off the new Bundesliga season with an impressive 4-1 win over Werder Bremen at Deutsche Bank Park, leaving the visitors with just one win in the last 12 head-to-heads.

A fast start saw ex-Bremen goalkeeper Michael Zetterer instantly called into action, as he gathered Marco Grull’s effort.

Moments later down the other end, Frankfurt’s new signing Jonathan Burkardt almost opened his goalscoring account when he hit the post after the ball was flicked into his path from a corner.

Zetterer then had to parry Grull’s precise free-kick away, before Can Uzun put Frankfurt ahead with a wonderful strike from distance.

The 19-year-old then quickly turned provider for a second for Die Adler, as he crossed for Jean-Matteo Bahoya to head home.

It did not take long for the goals to keep flowing in the second half, as more poor Bremen defending allowed Bahoya to double his tally after being found by Uzun.

The visitors then pulled one back almost immediately through Justin Njinmah’s lovely strike into the bottom corner, but any comeback hopes were soon dashed.

Bahoya was denied a hat-trick as he was replaced by Ansgar Knauff, and the substitute produced a neat finish into the bottom corner for Frankfurt’s fourth after a fast counter.

Knauff was hungry for goals and almost found his second in the closing stages, but his deflected shot was palmed away by Mio Backhaus.

Regardless, the hosts continued their momentum from an impressive third-place finish last season with a convincing victory, while Bremen have now suffered back-to-back defeats after losing 1-0 to Arminia Bielefeld in the DFB-Pokal.
