It was an apt final position for the 49-year-old, who was edged out by his Majesticks GC teammate Ian Poulter - the Englishman scored four birdies in his last five holes to take his place in the top 48 in the overall standings.
That left Stenson in one of the six relegation places, with no guarantee of a place on next year's tour.
There are still ways for the Swede to earn himself a place on the 2026 tour, such as a strong performance at the LIV Promotions Event coming up at the end of the year, but ironing out the inconsistencies that have plagued his 2025 campaign will be a necessity.
Stenson has openly admitted that the money on offer was a factor in his decision to join the lucrative yet controversial tour, backed by the Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund.
Trying to regain his place is now one of few options left available to him, given that he will be banned from playing PGA Tour events for a year after his last appearance in a LIV event.
Stenson may instead look to participate in the DP World Tour (formerly the European Tour), which has already welcomed back some former LIV players bans after not implementing sanctions as hard as the PGA's, but for now the immediate future of the Swedish veteran is in limbo.
