Northern Ireland's Rory McIlroy (35) and American J.J. Spaun (34) will face each other in a three-hole playoff on Monday after finishing Sunday's final round of the storm-hit PGA Players Championship tied at the top of the leaderboard.

World number two McIlroy, a four-time major winner and 2019 Players champion, fired a four-under-par 68 in the final round at TPC Sawgrass to finish 72 holes on 12-under 276.

Spaun, a 34-year-old American whose lone PGA win came at the 2022 Texas Open, birdied the 14th and par-five 16th to fire a 72 and stand on 276.

The playoff comes after Spaun was an inch away from winning the tournament on his final putt of the day.

The playoff will be a three-hole aggregate format and begin at 9 a.m. local time Monday morning due to darkness after a four-hour storm delay earlier in the afternoon.
