SG Flensburg Handewitt on Saturday evening suffered their first defeat of the season when they lost 31-35 at home against Champions League winners Magdeburg.

In the "Hell of the North," Gisli Thorgeir Kristjansson was the match-winner for Magdeburg with nine goals, making them the only undefeated team in the league.

Simon Pytlick and Marko Grgic each scored seven goals for Flensburg. After a thrilling first half where both sides enjoyed their momentum, the hosts went into halftime with a two-goal advantage.

But SCM went on a 5-1 run immediately after the restart, taking the lead and extending it with a high shooting percentage.

"It was a fantastic performance, actually, throughout the entire game," Kristjansson told Dyn. "The scoreline was misleading in the first half; all their shots on goal seemed to go in. We just had to stay calm and play our game."

"We weren't good enough in the second half. We played okay in attack, but missed a few more chances. Our defense wasn't as good as in the first half. That was perhaps the difference between the first and second half," Simon Pytlick summarized after the match.
