CSM Bucuresti coach Helle Thomsen has been confirmed to take over the job as Danish national team coach when Jesper Jensen steps down this summer. Thomsen has signed a contract until the end of 2028.

Helle Thomsen will take over as coach of the Danish women's national team.

On Thursday, she was presented at a press conference as the successor to Jesper Jensen, who has been in charge of the women's handball team for five years.

Helle Thomsen has signed a contract that runs until the end of 2028, and she is very prooud to take over her new position, Thomsen says in a press release from Danish Handball.

"It's the greatest thing to be allowed to be in charge of the Danish national team as a Dane. Denmark is a handball country. Here is the whole package: young talents, lots of players and a national team that participates in all final rounds and fights for medals."

"I am incredibly proud, grateful and humbled by the task", says Helle Thomsen who seems set to work two jobs for a while as her contract with CSM Bucuresti runs out in the summer of 2026.

Sport director of the Danish FA, Morten Henriksen, is pleased that the contract has been signed now.

"We made a spreadsheet where we assessed 14 different parameters. Everything from human qualities, motives, approach to media and fans. And we are happy that Helle will be with us until the end of 2028. During that period, we can both win European Championship gold, World Championship gold and Olympic gold", says Henriksen.
