Straight from the sart there were clear indications that Aalborg would be in for a tough afternoon in Skanderborg.
The Aalborg defense struggled to contain the Skanderborg back line while goalkeeper Niklas Landin was far from his best between the posts as Emil Laerke and Kristjan Kristjansson really turned on the heat for the home side.
Aalborg were basically hit by a defensively rock-solid brick wall which time and time again spoiled the rhythm for the visitiors who got increasingly frustrated during the first half and Skanderborg went in for the interval with a 16-11 lead at hand.
In the second half, the trend continued, and Skanderborg extended the lead to six goals before Aalborg finally seemed to wake up.
The league leaders suddently got their attacking game plan going as Thomas Arnoldsen revealed why he is a big target for most European top clubs.
Midway through the second half it looked like a superp comeback was in the cards when Aalborg took the lead after 49 minutes.
But the home team had plenty of energy left in the tank and after Laerke scored three goals in a row and Jeppe Cieslak brought Skanderborg decisively ahead by three goals with three minutes to go, the tide finally turned decisively in favour of the home side.
