A third and decisive match will be needed to decide the winner of the Danish women's domestic handball league, Kvindeligaen, after Odense on Sunday afternoon won the second leg 33-28 against Team Esbjerg.

Odense Handball were taught a handball lesson in the first Danish Championship final against Team Esbjerg, but on Sunday afternoon Ole Erevik's side struck back.

With a much more disciplined effort, Odense won 33-28 away from home and thus forced the final series into a third and decisive game at home.

The Danish championship will be decided on Thursday evening.

It was decisive for Sunday's game that Odense was successful in shutting down Henny Reistad as much as its possible to shut down the world's best handball player.

Dutch Nikita van der Vliet put in a tireless effort in defense and kept the Norwegian star on a tight leash throughout the match.

Odense were much more aggressive in defense and played with a fire and energy that Esbjerg simply could not match.

At the same time, Mie Hojlund and Helena Elver played a terrific match in attack, where their timing allowed them to break through the West Jutland defense time and time again. And if they couldn't find space, they found an unmarked teammate.

Elma Halilcevic on the left wing benefited from great service and never lost her cool in the decisive moments. Odense built up a comfortable lead and could easily have been ahead by more than three at the half-time whistle.

After the interval, Odense continued to play with great discipline, even though the home side intensified the pressure. But Esbjerg could not keep the visitors from scoring, and grew more and more frustrated.

They attempted to turn the tide by playing seven against six in attack, but made too many technical errors while Reistad wasn't up to her usual standard.

And when a great play by Elma Halilcevic put Odense ahead 30-24 with five minutes to go, it was effectively decided.
