A victory over South Korea on Friday was not enough for Sweden, as Brazil and Norway secured their passage to the Quarter-finals with wins of their own. Defeats to the same two opponents earlier in the week had already hampered Sweden's chances of making it through.
To cap off a disappointing World Championship, Tomas Axner's side even failed to restore some pride against Angola. The first half was a tight affair, and it wasn't until the 21st minute when either side took a lead of more than one goal - Nina Kappang struck to put Sweden 10-8 ahead.
However, Sweden failed to kick on, failing to score again before half-time, though Angola scored just twice themselves in the final nine minutes to send the sides in level at the break, 10-10.
After the break, Angola put together the first meaningful scoring run of the game, with Helena Paulo key to an 6-2 run that turned the match from 12-12 to 18-14 to the African side.
However, Sweden dragged themselves level with a 4-0 run with just under 10 minutes to play, with Clara Lerby scoring twice to make it 20-20, only for all their hard work to be undone, as Paulo scored two more as Angola responded with four unanswered strikes of their own.
Sweden cut the deficit in the final minutes, but it was too little too late, as Angola sealed just their second ever win over Blagult, 26-24.
The result sees Angola finish third in the group, two points clear of fourth-placed Sweden. Paulo top-scored in the match with eight goals, as Lerby managed six for Sweden.
