Winnipeg Jets goaltender Connor Hellebuyck won both the Hart Memorial Trophy and the Vezina Trophy. He becomes the first goaltender in a decade to achieve such a feat.

The 32-year-old Hellebuyck was on a fishing trip, enjoying his vacation, only to be surprised when his friends and family came to present him the two trophies. First came the Vezina Trophy, awarded to the best goaltender in the NHL for the season. As he was taking photos with that one, out came the Hart Memorial Trophy, which is given to the league's MVP.

"Connor is going out fishing, doing what he loves the most besides hockey," said Hellebuyck's wife Andrea. "We're going to try and surprise him with the Vezina (Trophy), which he has no idea that he's getting."

It is the second consecutive year that the Jets netminder won the Vezina Trophy, and third time overall. Completing the Vezina-Hart double in the same season is incredibly rare - the last goaltender to do so was long-time Montreal Canadiens man Carey Price a decade ago.

That was not the only award Hellebuyck had won this year. As a result of playing a key role in conceding a league-low 191 goals (including penalty shootout-deciding goals), he also won the William M. Jennings Trophy. That played a role in him winning 31 of the 32 first-place votes for the Vezina, amassing 158 points.

The American also grabbed 81 of the first-place votes in the Hart Trophy voting, finishing with 1,346 points.

Having just completed his 10th season in the NHL, Hellebuyck partook in 63 games across the regular season going 47-12-3. He also posted a 0.925 save percentage, a league-wide best.

The Winnipeg Jets finished top of the Western Conference with 116 points, five more than the Eastern Conference champions Washington Capitals. But their season ended in the second round of the playoffs, losing to the Dallas Stars in six games.
