The Toronto Maple Leafs took home a nail-biting win after defeating the Florida Panthers in Game 1, but it may have been a Pyrrhic victory.

Despite winning 5-4, Maple Leafs goaltender Anthony Stolarz went out in the second period with what may have been a concussion.

So let's go over the game's highlights and stats from Game 1.

1st Period

The first period saw an offensive frenzy after William Nylander got the Maple Leafs started with a goal just 33 seconds into the game.

After the Florida Panthers failed to convert on their first power play of the game, Nylander came back just minutes after it ended to score his second of the game.

The goal marked his fourth multi-goal playoff game and his 25th playoff goal of his career.

After Nylander's goals were a trio of penalties going Florida-Toronto-Florida all within a two-minute time frame, which the Panthers were finally able to capitalize on thanks to a Seth Jones power play goal to cut the lead to one.

Yet, just 19 seconds later, Morgan Reilly put the Maple Leafs up 3-1 after going on a 2-versus-1 breakaway.

Nylander recorded his third point of the game after being credited with the assist on Reilly's goal.

Toronto finished the first period with 12 shots on goal to Florida's four. Meanwhile, the Panthers outhit the Leafs 23 to 13.

2nd Period

The second period turned out to be a cool-down for both teams, but Toronto still made sure to put up one more goal on the board to go up 4-1. This time it came courtesy of Chris Tanev.

It was Tanev's first goal of the playoffs after scoring just three during the regular season.

But a scary moment happened to goaltender Anthony Stolarz with just over nine minutes left as he was taken out of the game following a collision in front of the net

Toronto put up just five shots on goal compared to 12 in the first while the Panthers put up double the amount from the first period with eight shots.

But Florida continues to dominate on the physical front as they finished the second period with 40 hits to Toronto's 23.

3rd Period

It didn't take long for the Panthers to start creeping up on the Leafs after Eetu Luostarinen scored just under two minutes into the period.

Then, just like that, the Panthers come back to within one to make it 4-3, forcing Toronto to use a timeout after Uvis Balinskis scored his first goal of the playoffs.

With just six minutes to go, Matthew Knies scored his fourth goal of the playoffs to put the Maple Leafs up by two yet again with a beautiful breakaway backhand.

But Florida fought back - it just wasn't good enough.

Sam Bennett scored to make it 5-4 with just under two minutes left to play. Unfortunately for the Panthers, it was their final goal of the game as the Maple Leafs took home a Game 1 win.

Both teams put 29 shots on goal while the Panthers roughed up the Leafs on the physical end, outhitting them 51-24. But all that matters in the end is the scoreboard.

Game 2 between the Maple Leafs and Panthers will take place on Wednesday, May 7th, in Toronto.
