The Toronto Maple Leafs signed forward Matthew Knies (22) to a six-year contract extension worth $46.5 million on Sunday.

Knies' new deal with an average annual value of $7.75 million comes after having a career year for the Maple Leafs.

The young left winger posted 29 goals and 29 assists in 78 games for Toronto this past season, along with five goals and a pair of assists during the playoffs.

His ice time average this season leaped to 18:31 from 13:41 in the previous season. Now, he'll be seeing a lot more for the Leafs in the next six years.

Knies was originally drafted 57th overall in the 2021 NHL Draft and made his debut during the 2022-2023 season for the Leafs. However, his first full season (2023-2024) proved to be impressive after scoring 15 goals and racking up 20 assists in 80 games.

Knies' deal was announced amidst rumours circulating around teammate Mitch Marner possibly being dealt to the Vegas Golden Knights in a trade, one that involves the former's veteran centre Nicolas Roy.

Toronto recently extended star centre John Tavares to a four-year extension that'll keep him on the Maple Leafs for the rest of his career.

The team is also coming out of the recent 2025 NHL Draft with six new players. Check out who they drafted, along with every other team, here.
