The Washington Capitals fired assistant coach Mitch Love on Sunday as part of a decision that stemmed from previous NHL investigations into personal conduct that began in the summer, according to multiple reports.

The Capitals placed Love on leave back on September 14th.

"Mitch Love has been relieved of his duties as an assistant coach, effective immediately," the Capitals said in a statement. "This decision follows the findings of an NHL-led investigation into past allegations. The organization is committed to maintaining the highest standards of conduct and accountability."

NHL insider Frank Servalli reported that the investigation was for domestic abuse after the team didn't provide details.

The victim reported the case to the NHL and the teams - Boston Bruins and Pittsburgh Penguins - Love interviewed with over the offseason for possible head coaching jobs.

In a statement to The Washington Post, Love denied these allegations.

Love joined the Capitals staff in 2023 when the team hired current head coach Spencer Carbery.

He was previously a member of the Calgary Flames' system.
