The two sides came into this match on the back of 5-2 victories in Thursday's Quarter-finals; Sweden coasted home after opening a big lead early on against Czech Republic, while two goals unanswered in the third period had seen the USA end Finland's challenge.
William Nylander was added to the Swedish squad for the Playoffs, and after failing to an impact against the Czechs, he was sent to the penalty box for roughing less than 30 seconds into this match. Only a combination of Jakob Markstrom saves and the posts kept the US out during the powerplay.
Sweden had a full team back on the ice by the seventh minute, but that did not stop them from falling behind - a faceoff in the Swedish zone was worked back to Brady Skjei, who had time to send a strike from the blue line whistling past Markstrom and into the top corner.
The Tre Kronor failed to have a shot on goal in the first 10 minutes, and were reliant on Markstrom time and again to keep them in the match, but inside the final three minutes of the period, the goaltender was beaten again.
William Smith saw his effort saved, before Shane Pinto's strike was blocked and the second rebound fell to Cutter Gauthier, who turned and fired a shot which squeezed under Markstrom's pads and in.
In the second period, Sam Hallam's side were significantly improving their shot count, but now the man shining between the pipes was the USA's Jeremy Swayman, who made nine saves in the first 10 minutes of the second.
Soon after, Team America made them pay as Conor Garland scored his fifth goal of the championship.
After the USA fought to keep the puck alive behind the Swedish net, Skjei teed up Logan Cooley, whose effort was saved by Markland, but the rebound was kind for the Vancouver Canucks forward, who tapped home.
The USA's place in the final was all but secured three minutes before the second period ended. After the North Americans broke from deep in their own zone, Matthew Beniers burst into Swedish territory and squared the puck to Michael Eyssimont, who took his time to set himself and fire past Markstrom.
Seven minutes into the third period, Sweden gave themselves hope of an almighty comeback.
First, Nylander's pass into the danger area was picked up by William Karlsson; he teed up Rasmus Andersson for a strike, but instead cleverly played the puck back across to Nylander on the left, who tucked away his first goal of the tournament.
Less than a minute later, Sweden made it 4-2 - Isac Lundestrom used his strength behind the net to win the puck back and allow Alexander Wennberg to take possession. He played the puck to Elias Lindholm waiting in the centre, and the Boston Bruins man blasted the puck home before Swayman could react.
But the comeback was killed off and a place in the Final for Ryan Warsofsky's team was confirmed nine minutes from the final horn when Jackson LaCombe raced away and scored the USA's fifth past Samuel Ersson.
To rub salt in the Swedish wounds, Pinto added the sixth with an empty-netter from behind his own goal with four minutes to play as the USA reached the gold medal match in style, 6-2.
The 1933 world championship gold is one of two for the USA, as the Winter Olympic gold medal they won in 1960 also counts towards their total.
Therefore, tomorrow's gold medal match (20:20 CEST) against Switzerland or Denmark will be their first outright World Championship final for 92 years.
Sweden, meanwhile, must pick themselves up for the bronze medal match, which will be played at 15:20 CEST tomorrow.
