Kasper Asgreen is set to miss out on all the classics of the spring following a start to the season which has been disrupted by illness.

Kasper had a very good winter of training, but at Paris-Nice he started feeling tired. His recovery markers that we monitor on a daily basis also reflected this," says EF Pro Cycling Head Doctor Jon Greenwell.

"We monitor the resting heart rate, HRV and recovery score and we saw that Kasper´s numbers were moving away from his normal range and the conclusion was that Kasper had been exposed to a virus at some stage earlier in the year that had caused the fatigue.”

The Dane is obviously upset about missing his favorite part of the cycling season.

"It hurts to miss the races I love the most. All winter I have been training to be ready for the classics. But I am very grateful to be on a team that sees value in me becoming the best version of myself", says Kasper Asgreen.

He had not expected that a short period of illness would have such far-reaching consequences.

"A few weeks ago I got an infection and after some rest I thought I could come back without losing too much form. Unfortunately it got worse during Paris-Nice and I had to rest a bit more."

"The interruptions came at the worst possible time and have ruined all the hard work I have done over the winter."

"I'm still in good enough shape to be able to complete races, but I'm not competitive anymore. Therefore, I have decided with my team that I must now focus on becoming the best version of myself before I race again", says Asgreen.
