Kempe's deal that begins next season will have an average annual value of $10.625 million. He was in the final year of his four-year, $22 million deal with the Kings.
"I'm really happy," Kempe said. "Feels good. I haven't really been thinking about it too much, just kind of focusing on playing, and then once you get the call that the Kings have agreed. Obviously, you get very excited, very happy. Proud of myself. Thankful for teammates, fans, everybody's who's been around, and definitely excited to be here for another eight."
The 29-year-old is third on the Kings with six goals and tied for first with 13 assists alongside teammate Quinton Byfield. His 19 points are the most on a Kings team that currently sits atop the Pacific Division with a 10-5-4 record.
Kempe was originally selected with the 29th overall pick in the 2014 NHL Draft before making his debut during the 2016-2017 season. The Sweden native, who will be joining the national team during the 2026 Winter Olympics in February, has spent his entire career with the Kings, racking up 200 goals and 220 assists in 649 games.
He's scored at least 30 goals and recorded at least 25 assists in three of the past four seasons.
