The New York Yankees acquired relief pitcher Jake Bird from the Colorado Rockies in a trade on Thursday.

In return, the Rockies received NYY No. 10 prospect Roc Riggio (2B) and No. 28 prospect Ben Shields (P).

Bird is tossing a 4.73 earned run average (ERA) this season in 45 games, giving up 28 earned runs on 56 hits in 53.1 innings. The 29-year-old righty also has 62 strikeouts and 23 walks while opponents are batting .271 against Bird this season. 

Riggio is slashing .264/.370/.567 with 18 home runs, 45 RBI, and nine stolen bases through  62 games in the minors this season. The 23-year-old made his way up from rookie ball to Double-A, where he's hitting .261 with 11 home runs and an .877 OPS.

Shields has a 3.03 ERA in nine games of relief this season in the minors. In 35.2 innings, the 26-year-old has given up 12 earned runs on 30 hits while striking out 42 and walking 15 with opponents hitting .234 against him.
