The NHL had a simple four-game slate on Friday, but it wasn't short of incredible moments, including Alexander Ovechkin reaching 898 career goals and some overtime thrills!

Capitals 5-1 Wild

Ovechkin scored goal No. 898 and his first of the season in Friday's dominant win over the Minnesota Wild.

Dylan Strome scored his first two goals of the season for the Caps, while teammates Aliaksei Protas (4) and Tom Wilson (3) scored the others.

Former Capitals centre Marcus Johansson scored the lone goal for Minnesota, who didn't eclipse 10 shots on goal until the third period.

Washington would go on to outshoot Minnesota a whopping 45-15. They improved to 4-1-0 on the season, while the Wild fall to 2-3-0.

Red Wings 2-1 Lightning

Detroit's Dylan Larkin scored the breakaway game-winner to give the Red Wings an overtime win over the Lightning.

Axel Sandin-Pellikka scored his first goal of the season to get things started for Detroit - also assisted by Larkin.

J.J. Moser would tie it up for the Lightning in the second period, but it proved to be all that Tampa Bay could get past Josh Gibson, who finished with 32 saves on the night.

The Red Wings improve to 4-1-0. As for Tampa, they have now lost four of their first five games of the season, posting a 1-2-2 record.

Canucks 3-2 Blackhawks

After the Blackhawks got out to a 2-0 lead thanks to a pair of goals from Ryan Donato (2) and Tyler Bertuzzi (2), the Canucks fought back in the second period.

Jake DeBrusk (1) scored his first of the season on the power play before Max Sasson (2) tied it all up for the Canucks at two apiece, which would send it to OT after a scoreless third period.

After neither team scored in OT, Brock Boeser would be the hero for Vancouver in a shootout to improve to a 3-2-0 record.

Chicago falls to 2-2-2.

Mammoth 6-3 Sharks

Utah's Nick Schmaltz (3) scored a hat-trick for his first three goals of the season.

After Schmaltz scored the first two goals of the game, the Sharks retaliated with a pair of goals from Tyler Toffoli (2) and Jeff Skinner (3).

But the Mammoth would pour on four more goals from Schmaltz, Liam O'Brien (1), Michael Carcone (1), and Clayton Keller (1).

San Jose's Macklin Celebrini (1) would score on the power play to cut the lead in half, but it wasn't nearly enough to surmount a comeback.

Utah improved to 3-2-0, while the Sharks remain winless with a 0-2-2 record.
