The midweek action in the Allsvenskan concluded on Thursday night and left teams at the top separated by just two points, as Mjallby and Elfsborg picked up victories to keep the pressure on Hammarby and leaders Elfsborg. Champions Malmo, however, are only part of the chasing pack, as they were held to a surprise draw by struggling Varnamo.

Elfsborg picked up their third win in a row and remain fourth in the standings after an entertaining 4-3 victory at home to Brommapojkarna

Niklas Hult and Frederik Ihler scored twice in four minutes to put the hosts 2-0 up early on, but two equally quick goals midway through the half from Ezequiel Alladoh and Alex Timossi drew the Bromma Boys level.

But two goals from Leo Ostman - a header just after the hour mark and a fortunate deflection with eight minutes to play - won it for Elfsborg in the second half, before Victor Lind grabbed a consolation for Brommapojkarna, who sit 11th after back-to-back defeats.

Mjallby put their defeat to AIK at the weekend behind them by going to the capital and leaving with a 3-1 win over Djurgarden, taking them to within a point of the leaders.

Thursday night matches have become customary for Djurgarden, and perhaps that's what helped them take the lead after 15 minutes through August Priske.

But from then on, it was all Mjallby, who equalised late in the half, courtesy of Tom Pettersson, before Elliot Stroud let fly from 25 yards out to put the visitors in front with 17 minutes to play.

Alexander Johansson at full stretch turned home Mjallby's third in the final minutes to seal the points and end eighth-placed Djurgarden's four-match domestic unbeaten run.

Malmo are six points off the top after suffering one of the shocks of the season so far, drawing 2-2 away at Varnamo, who remain bottom having picked up just their second point of the campaign.

The champions got off to an expected positive start four minutes in when Daniel Gudjohnsen headed home from a corner, but could not build on their lead, which was wiped out 30 minutes later when Mohammad Alsalkhadi found the bottom corner.

The visitors' lead was restored soon after as Varnamo couldn't deal with a corner again, this time Pontus Jansson rose highest to score.

But in the second half, Malmo failed to wrap the game up and Varnamo grabbed their opportunity with a little over 10 minutes to play, when Frank Junior Adjei found space inside the area and lashed the ball past the goalkeeper to equalise once more.

After seven consecutive defeats, Varnamo have two draws in less than a week, while Malmo have won just two of their last seven.

Also on Thursday, a late Leon Hien winner gave Degerfors a 2-1 win at Norrkoping after Tim Prica's penalty had cancelled out Juhani Pikkarainen's opener. The away side climb to sixth, while Norrkoping drop to 10th and are without a win in three.

Finally, an Elis Bishesari own goal and a red card for Kolbeinn Thordarson made for a bad night at home for Goteborg, who lost 1-0 to Oster and gave the visitors their first points since round 2.
