The curtain-raiser on Saturday saw two of Sweden's biggest names go head-to-head, as UEFA Conference League Quarter-Finalists Djurgarden welcomed Malmo to 3Arena.
Before kick-off, the packed stadium said farewell to Haris Radetinac, whose 11 years with the Stockholm club came to an end in December, with an emotional tribute.
The charged atmosphere seemed to spur on Djurgarden, who took the game to Malmo in the opening exchanges but lacked a cutting edge in front of goal. Tokmac Nguen came the closest to scoring with a swerving effort from 25 yards out, which cannoned off the crossbar.
Failure to hit the target came back to haunt them in first-half stoppage time, when Malmo worked the ball across the edge of the six-yard box to an unmarked Jens Stryger Larsen, who applied the finish.
The home side probed for much of the second half and finally created a golden chance in the 92nd minute, but somehow Marcus Danielsson put a cushioned volley over the bar from just five yards out.
The 1-0 win marks the sixth time in a row the champions have begun the season with a victory, going on to take the title in four of the previous five.
Relegation two seasons ago was followed by an immediate return to the Allsvenskan for Degerfors, but judging by Sunday's 5-0 away win at Halmstad, it was hard to believe they had ever been away.
That was all down to Omar Faraj, who scored all five goals in a match he or Degerfors fans won't forget anytime soon.
A cool finish into the bottom corner broke the deadlock in first-half stoppage time, before bundling in a scrappy second 10 minutes into the second half.
The Palestine international completed his hattrick in the 74th minute from the penalty spot, before being given far too much space to turn on the edge of the area and guide the ball past goalkeeper Tim Ronning for his fourth.
A clumsy challenge in added time gave him the chance to make it 5-0 with a second penalty and he made no mistake, sending the goalkeeper the wrong way.
It is a dream start for Degerfors and their new manager William Lundin, who notched just his second Allsvenskan success as a manager, following just one victory as Goteborg caretaker manager in 2023.
Roundup: Hammarby hammer Goteborg
One cannot read too much into the first round of fixtures, but if Goteborg's inaugural 90 minutes of the 2025 campaign are anything to go by, the 13-time champions are in for another tough year.
The Gothenburg side were thrashed 4-0 by last year's runners-up Hammarby, who notched two in each half and could have had a fifth had Nahir Besara not missed a penalty five minutes after scoring the third goal.
Four goals was only just enough for Norrkoping, who held on to beat 2025's other new addition, Oster, 4-3.
The home side looked to be home and dry, only for Mattis Adolfsson to score twice for Oster in the final 12 minutes and Tim Prica to be shown a red card in added time to set up a nervy finish, but the 10 men held on.
On Saturday, two Amor Layouni goals were enough for Hacken to see off Brommapojkarna, 2-0, then on Sunday, Mjallby threw away a 2-0 lead away at Elfsborg in the second half to draw 2-2.
Away wins were secured on Monday evening, though, as Marcus Lindberg scored a 95th-minute winner for Sirius in a 2-1 win over Varnamo, while Bersant Celina left it even later in another Gothenburg vs Stockholm clash, finding the net after 92 minutes for AIK to beat GAIS 1-0.
