Tuesday and Wednesday had the first legs of this season's UEFA Champions League playoff round. Fourteen clubs are still dreaming of an appearance in the league phase draw next Thursday. Here is one stat from each of the matches.

8 - Club Brugge hit the ground running against Rangers, scoring thrice in the opening 20 minutes to hold on for a 3-1 victory at Ibrox. The Gers have an impressive record against Belgian teams, with Tuesday's result being just their third reverse in 14 matches (10-1-3). However, it was the first time in what was their eighth home game that they failed to beat a Jupiler Pro League team.

5 - Qarabag are nearing a return to the Champions League proper eight years on from their only previous showing. The Azeri champions came from a goal down to defeat Ferencvaros 3-1 in the Hungarian capital to earn a significant first leg advantage. They have had an excellent run this summer in the qualifying rounds, with this being their fifth win on the spin, in what is the longest winning streak for them in UEFA club competition play.

26 - Former European Cup winners Crvena zvezda are in trouble as they fell 2-1 to Paphos in their home leg. The Cypriots, playing in just their second season in Europe, are now 90 minutes away from becoming the third different side from Cyprus to make the UCL proper. It was a rare home loss in continental action for Red Star, who took 26 shots in the match. For perspective, none of the other matches this matchweek had that many shots between the two teams involved.

1 - Fenerbahce failed to capitalize in the final 19 minutes of their first leg against 10-man Benfica, who held out for a 0-0 draw. Fener, who are looking to qualify for the UCL's group phase for the first time in 17 years, drew against Portuguese opposition for the very first time (5-1-6). In that respect, Benfica failed to add onto the 12 goals they scored against their Istanbul-based opponents from six previous meetings - only Manchester United (14) have scored more versus the Turkish giants.

4 - Celtic and Kairat Almaty played to a scoreless stalemate in Glasgow, a result that leaves the Kazakh club the happier. The hosts had the majority of the possession, but could not convert that into a goal as they will face a long trip to Almaty for next week's second leg. Recent Champions League qualifiers have not gone well for Celtic, as they have now failed to win in their last four games.

14 - Bodo/Glimt were the biggest winners of the night, as their 5-0 beating of Sturm Graz puts them on the precipice of a maiden Champions League group phase showing. They are set to end an 18-year drought of there being no Norwegian teams in the UCL main rounds. Coming out on top at home is something they have gotten used to, especially in the qualifying round. This was Bodo's 14th straight home victory in a qualifying round match, going back four years.

18 - FC Basel and FC Kobenhavn could not find a winner in their clash on Wednesday night, as a 1-1 draw leaves the tie wide open heading into next week's second match. The Danes thought they had a winner in the 87th minute, shortly after Basel went down to 10 men, but it was called back for offside. The stalemate made it 18 Champions League qualifying round games without defeat for Kobenhavn, who will fancy their chances at home next Wednesday.
