Matchday 3 of the Champions League delivered an early contender for the round of the league phase as some of Europe's top sides went on goal sprees.

The moral of this week's Champions League story is that attack is the best form of defence because if you score for fun, there is less pressure on your defence to be faultless.

As Michael Owen rightly said, it is easier to break a house down than build it, but when you have some of the best attackers in Europe like Barcelona and PSG do, taking the game to the opposition is a no-brainer.

On a thrilling Tuesday evening of Champions League football, PSG and Barcelona were among six teams to score four goals or more on their way to huge victories.

Out of those six sides, only Arsenal and Inter kept clean sheets; meanwhile, PSV, Dortmund and PSG each conceded two goals and still won convincingly.

Sometimes, outscoring your opposition isn't the worst tactic.

Star player - Desire Doue

With there being so many goals in gameweek three, it is no surprise that there were also plenty of candidates for star player.

From Nuno Mendes to Marcus Rashford, the options were strong, but Desire Doue's return to the Champions League with two goals and an assist couldn't be ignored. It was a statement return to the spotlight for a superstar with the world at his feet.

In PSG's emphatic 7-2 thrashing away to Bayer Leverkusen on Tuesday night, the Parisians hit the home side with a directness and vigour almost impossible to stop. With Doue's dazzling quick feet, rapid turn of pace and precise finishing, the French international was the perfect player to finish off their devastating counter-attacks.

After far from having things their own way for most of the first half, PSG took a 2-1 lead in the 41st minute after a nonchalant finish inside the box from the ice-cold Doue. That began an attacking avalanche from PSG at the end of the first half, which incredibly saw the visitors charge into a 4-1 lead at the break.

Doue scored his second and PSG's fourth on the stroke of half-time, and it was a stroke of magic that put the away side out of sight. Another blistering counter found its way to Doue, and the Frenchman drove at Bayer's defence before cutting inside in trademark fashion and curling an effort into the bottom corner.

It was an effortless-looking goal again, and that is part of what makes this kid so unique. Football can look so easy when special players make it look that way. Doue, at just 20, is very much in that category.

Team of the week - Arsenal

As previously mentioned, this award could have gone to a few sides on this high-scoring round of fixtures, but Arsenal's 4-0 thrashing against Atletico Madrid stood out amongst the crowd. The Gunners made light work of traditionally tricky Champions League opponents in a statement victory at the Emirates to continue their perfect start to the league phase.

In the Premier League, Arsenal have been winning by one or two goals, keeping clean sheets and relying heavily on set-piece goals. Whilst that has been incredibly effective as Mikel Arteta's side find themselves top of the league after eight games, their attacking players were overdue for a big performance.

Viktor Gyokeres has begun to receive criticism for his lack of goals after Arsenal spent big in the summer to secure his signature, so his brace on an important European night would have been welcome.

It was an all-round impressive attacking display from the home side, with no sign of any handbrake being on from Arteta. On the contrary, the Arsenal boss gave free rein to his players to express themselves and show the world what they could do in attack. After all, it has become quite clear Arsenal are the best defensive side in world football.

If they become one of the best at attacking, they will be virtually unstoppable.

If Arsenal produce more performances like Tuesday night in the weeks and months ahead, they will be a very difficult team to even sneak a point against, let alone beat. A side with rock-solid defensive foundations, dynamic attacking full-backs and numerous game changers across the forward line? That is a recipe for success.

Surprise package - PSV

PSV were on the wrong end of this award in Matchday 1 when they were stunned by Champions League newcomers Royal Union SG. However, they have won the award before, and the Dutch side has made a habit out of exceeding expectations in Europe's premier competition.

Ahead of kick-off on Tuesday evening, few would have predicted anything but a Napoli victory, so PSV winning 6-2 is the latest example of a side that loves to play the underdog role. Perhaps it is time people started taking Peter Bosz's men seriously.

What was impressive about PSV's win in front of their home supporters was how they came from a goal down in the 31st minute to lead 2-1 before half-time to take control of the match.

They played on the home support and quickly turned the direction of the tie in their favour.

The hosts were in dreamland soon after the restart as Dennis Man finished off a brilliant sweeping attack to put them 3-1 up and almost out of sight. A Lorenzo Lucca sending off with 15 minutes to play would see a late flurry of goals as PSV turned a victory into a demolition.

A 6-2 thrashing against the champions of Italy, no less.

Moment of the week - Karl nets on first Champions League start

There is nothing quite like a teenager announcing themselves on the Champions League stage, and that is exactly what 17-year-old Lennart Karl did on Wednesday night with a sensational solo goal on his first start in Europe.

Bayern Munich have been in the kind of form where they can afford to give opportunities to stars of tomorrow, and that is exactly what Kompany did on Wednesday evening.

Big things are expected of Karl, so a home tie against Club Brugge would have likely been seen as the perfect match to show everyone what he is all about.

Astonishingly, it took just five minutes for the academy prospect to announce himself to the world. The exciting teenager went on a mazy run through the middle of Club Brugge's defence before unleashing a rocket which dipped into the top corner at just the right time.

It was a moment of magic that quickly went viral as the football world was introduced to a name they will hear a lot more of.
