FC Copenhagen's Mexican international defender Rodrigo Huescas, is out for the season as he is to undergo surgery for a serious knee injury which he sustained in the Danes' 2-0 defeat in Baku against Qarabag.

It looked serious when FC Copenhagen's Rodrigo Huescas was stretchered off the pitch at the start of the Champions League match away to Qarabag in Baku on Wednesday, and the fears have now been confirmed.

On the club's website, FC Copenhagen say that the Mexican is out for the rest of the season with an injury.

In the situation, it looked like the 22-year-old right-back twisted his knee badly.

A scan on Thursday evening after the team's arrival in Copenhagen has confirmed that the Mexican will not play for the rest of the season, which is a huge blow for the Copenhagen club.

"Since his arrival last summer, Rodrigo has shown himself to be a thoroughly capable player who has become a profile in FC Copenhagen and the Superliga," says head coach Jacob Neestrup.

"We as a team will miss his qualities on the pitch, but at the same time, I can also promise that everyone in and around FC Copenhagen will do everything to bring Rodrigo back strong, so that we can once again enjoy his qualities."

A possible subsitute for Huescas could be the 19-year-old Yoram Zague, whom the Copenhagen club signed on loan from Paris Saint-Germain in the summer transfer window.

Huescas is the second player FC Copenhagen have lost to a long-term injury this season.

In August, midfielder Magnus Mattsson suffered an injury that will also keep him out for the rest of the season.
