Juventus and Borussia Dortmund could not be separated in a pulsating 4-4 draw at the Allianz Stadium, with Juventus coming from behind three times as all eight goals were scored in the second half of a true UEFA Champions League (UCL) classic.

If Saturday’s thrilling Derby D’Italia victory was anything to go by, fans at Allianz Stadium were expecting a glut of goals here, but the first half didn’t quite turn out that way.

Khéphren Thuram’s long-range effort did threaten to trouble the scoreboard early on, and it might well have found the top corner had Gregor Kobel not leapt to tip it away at the last moment.

Dortmund responded by hoarding the majority of possession, but the only chances for the remainder of the half went the way of new Juventus arrivals Lois Openda and Jonathan David at the other end.

The first 45 minutes lacked action, but fans in Turin had no such complaints after the restart.

The visitors finally started to find their feet in attack, and Maximilian Beier didn’t have long to rue hitting the near post as his side netted the opener.

Karim Adeyemi took the ball on from Serhou Guirassy just moments later, shifted it onto his left and found the bottom corner from the edge of the area.

That goal ignited both sides, and more goals looked to be on the way, but few could have expected what came next.

Kenan Yildiz beautifully found Kobel’s top corner with a curling effort from distance, setting up a remarkable passage of play which saw a further three goals in the next 12 minutes.

Felix Nmecha restored Dortmund’s lead with an equally graceful strike from the edge of the area at the other end, before Dusan Vlahovic raced onto Yildiz’s pass and slotted to restore parity once more.

It then looked as though the result had been put beyond all doubt when Ramy Bensebaini passed in from the spot after Lloyd Kelly’s handball, but Juventus battled back in the final three minutes of added time in a sensational comeback.

Vlahovic first turned in Pierre Kalulu’s cross at the near post to make it 4-3, before Kelly made amends for giving away the earlier penalty by nodding Vlahovic’s ball past Kobel in the 96th - and final - minute of stoppage time.

Dortmund are still unbeaten this term in all competitions, as are Juventus, but manager Niko Kovac will be baffled as to how his team managed to throw the lead away on so many occasions.
