Following the goalless first leg at home, Malmo became the latest of the great and the good of Swedish football to fall to league leaders Mjallby in the Allsvenskan at the weekend.
Whether it was a case of MFF being distracted by their UCL campaign, or just being bettered by the league's form side, manager Henrik Rydstrom is backing his team to bounce back in the second leg when they make the short trip over the Oresund Bridge.
"It will be a huge setting and everything will be put to the test, considering what is at stake. This group has been good at adjusting, that's what it's all about," he said in the club's pre-match press conference.
What often sets top professionals from the rest is the ability to move on from defeats, and Rydstrom clearly sees that mentality in his players, "There are highs and lows, you let the game go and then there's full focus on the next one. We've been good at that."
The same test of character awaits FCK, too, after they were beaten 3-2 at home to Aarhus in the Superliga at the weekend.
Having failed to score in the home leg, Malmo must find the net in some capacity tonight to stay in the UCL, be it in normal time or extra time and penalties if required. Though they kept the tie alive at Eleda Stadion, Rydstrom wants to see less of the conservative approach that has dogged their last two games.
"Here at home we wanted to make sure the two-legged tie lives on, and it does. We chose to be perhaps a little too cautious in certain situations, just like we were in periods against Mjallby. Now we want to turn the dial up and feel 'here we go for the attack, here we step up more'."
An advantage for the Himmelsblatt - their manager believes - is that the favouritism tag is firmly attached to the Danish side, "There is pressure on both teams but they are in a situation where they really can’t afford not to move on, that is something we want to play with psychologically.
"It feels like we have a fantastic number of opportunities in this match."
