AZ and PEC Zwolle shared the points after a surprising 2-2 draw in their rescheduled meeting from round 3 of the Dutch Eredivisie.

The match was originally scheduled for Sunday, August 24th, but was rescheduled to give AZ additional rest in between UEFA Conference League qualifiers against Levski Sofia.

The home side, which came off the back of a dramatic 3-3 draw against league leaders Feyenoord, took the lead after 38 minutes, when teenage prodigy Kees Smit scored his first Eredivisie goal with a terrific hit from distance.

Striker Koen Kostons got PEC back on track in the 44th minute, but was left disappointed when Brazilian winger Weslley Patati scored his first AZ goal in the 48th minute to give the home side the lead on the verge of half-time.

Kostons hit again shortly after the break with what would eventually be PEC's only attempt of the second half, heading the ball through Rome-Jayden Owusu-Oduro's hands from close range.

AZ would dominate the half and finish with 18 attempts, but without a single point as PEC stole a draw. The draw still lifted the Alkmaar outfit to the top-4, leapfrogging them over FC Groningen on goal difference.

PEC finally won a point after three consecutive losses and created a little breathing room with a gap of three points to Volendam and Telstar, who reside in the danger zone.
