Dutch promotion contenders FC Den Bosch have fired technical director Bernard Schuiteman one month before the playoffs begin.

FC Den Bosch announced the future departure of Schuiteman last week. Schuiteman, who was hired on a temporary basis, and the club agreed to end the cooperation after the season so that Schuiteman could continue as a technical director elsewhere.

But with the playoffs for promotion to the Eredivisie just one month away, FC Den Bosch announced on Tuesday that Schuiteman has been fired effective immediately.

"Now that it has become clear that Bernard has definitely chosen to work for a direct competitor in the new season, we see that this is no longer compatible, and we have to protect the interests of the club, as a result of which it has been decided to terminate the cooperation with immediate effect," FC Den Bosch announced on the club website.

The 'direct competitor' has since been revealed to be Eredivisie side RKC Waalwijk. The 17th-placed Eredivisie club announced Schuiteman's arrival an hour after Den Bosch fired the former footballer. Schuiteman will be the successor to Mo Allach, who will move to FC Groningen after the current season.

Schuiteman is the second high-profile firing of the season after manager David Nascimento's dismissal in November. FC Den Bosch won the first period of the current Keuken Kampioen Divisie season and have thus secured a spot in the playoffs for promotion to the Eredivisie.

FC Den Bosch are currently ninth in the Keuken Kampioen Divisie. The playoffs for promotion to the Eredivisie start on May 12th. If FC Den Bosch clinch promotion, they will return to the Eredivisie for the first time since 2005.
