Feyenoord have confirmed the transfer of Danish striker Casper Tengstedt from Portuguese giants Benfica.

The 25-year-old Tengstedt has signed a four-year contract in Rotterdam. Feyenoord pay a fixed fee of €6 million to Benfica, who could earn €1 million more in bonuses and have negotiated a sell-on percentage into Tengstedt's Feyenoord contract.

After struggling in his first two season with Benfica, in which the Dane scored fore goals in 21 league games, Tengstedt was loaned out to Hellas Verona during the 2024/25 season.

Tengstedt made a strong start to his campaign in Serie A with Verona, but was hampered by recurring ankle injuries in the second half of the season. Consequently, Verona chose to move on and refrained from exercising their option to sign Tengstedt permanently.

Tengstedt failed to establish himself in Portugal and will not get another chance to impress at the Portuguese club, with whom he had a contract until 2028. He finished his time with Benfica with six goals, one assist, 38 shots (11 on target), and 12 key passes in 25 appearances (20 starts).

Big role for Aursnes

"Feyenoord is a wonderful new chapter for me and a huge club," said Tengstedt, who mentioned former Feyenoord midfielder Fredrik Aursnes as a big factor in his Eredivisie move.

"Fredrik is one of my best friends. He has told me everything about Feyenoord, especially the atmosphere and the supporters; that I couldn't possibly imagine what awaits me.

"That's why I'm really looking forward to playing at De Kuip. We have a big task ahead of us with the UEFA Champions League preliminary rounds, and I'm determined to help the club achieve that."

17-time Eredivisie champions Feyenoord struggled with their striker last season after Santiago Gimenez left the club for a record fee for AC Milan in January. The two remaining strikers, Ayase Ueda and Julian Carranza, scored just six goals following Gimenez's departure.

Feyenoord start their season on August 5th with a home game against Fenerbahce in the third round of the UEFA Champions League qualifying phase.
