Football director Peter Sand praises Martinez's efforts for the club and says he developed into a profile after they signed him on loan in the end of August 2022 from Brazilian outfit Red Bull Bragantino.
Emiliano Martínez did not attend FC Midtjylland's training camp in Portugal earlier this month, or FC Midtjyllands's Europa League match against Ludogorets.
In agreement with FC Midtjylland, Martínez has instead kept physically active in Uruguay.
Palmeiras made a serious inquiry just after the New Year and consequently FC Midtjylland, together with Martínez and the midfielder's agents, agreed that the chance of a transfer was so big that it made the most sense for Martínez to stay in South America after Christmas and the New Year holidays.
"Emiliano has been a key player for us and developed into one of our biggest profiles in midfield. His performances have lifted the whole team, and during his time with us he has crowned his efforts with a place in the Uruguayan national team. We are incredibly proud to have played a part in his journey and development."
"There was always a plan that Emiliano would move on at some point. The move to Palmeiras is a fantastic opportunity for him, and it also confirms that we as a club are succeeding in our strategy of developing players and ensuring that they get the right opportunities at the right time," says Peter Sand.
In addition to their current status as runners-up in Brazil, Palmeiras also reached the last 16 of South America's answer to the Champions League, the Copa Libertadores, last season.
