The UEFA Europa League is now at the quarter-final stage, after a thrilling Thursday of action last week. As the competition has only eight teams left, here is a stat for each of the round of 16 return leg matches.

18 - Bodo/Glimt fell to defeat 2-1 on the night at Olympiakos, but still advanced 4-2 on aggregate. Despite this being just their second season in the Europa League proper, the club from the Arctic Circle are one of the last eight standing. Their progression to the quarter-finals made Norway the 18th different nation to qualify for the Europa League quarter-finals (UEL era only).

13 - Lazio were once again made to sweat. However, the Biancocelesti got the job done with a 1-1 draw at home to Viktoria Plzen. Overall, the Serie A club advanced 3-2 overall. Lazio are now unbeaten in their last 13 UEL home games, with their last loss coming in 2019/20 group stage to Celtic.

7 - Eintracht Frankfurt finished Ajax in emphatic fashion, picking up a 4-1 victory at home. Across the two legs, the 2021/22 winners prevailed 6-2. This sees Die Adler make the quarter-finals of the UEL for the thrid time. As for Ajax, they suffered their seventh defeat in the competition, including their last three matches. That is the most losses they have ever had in a European season.

5 - Athletic Club were able to overturn their first leg deficit by beating AS Roma 3-1 at home and 4-3 on aggregate. It puts the Basque club one step closer to playing the final at home. However, it also means that for the first time in five years, Roma will not partake in a European semi-final. Fittingly, they were also eliminated at this stage of the Europa League the last time they did not do so, against Sevilla. This could be good omen for Athletic, as the Andalusians went on to lift the trophy that season.

12 - Tottenham Hotspur are finally back of the last eight of the UEL. The North London also recoered from a first leg loss to AZ Alkmaar 3-1 at home and 3-2 overall. Spurs are in the UEL quarter-finals for the first time in 12 years. Remarkably, this is just the second across eight appearances that they have gone this far in the UEL under its current guise. They never have gotten further.

3 - Rangers needed a penalty shootout to outlast Fenerbahce after the tie ended 3-3 on aggregate. In the shootout, they won 3-2 to advance. Although they are through, the Gers lost to a Turkish side for just the third time in 11 matches. It is also the first time that they have been defeated by such opposition at home, having previously gone 3-2-0 and conceding just once.

10 - Manchester United made the most of their penalty kicks as they moved on at the expense of Real Sociedad. The 4-1 victory at Old Trafford sealed a 5-2 aggregate win for the Red Devils. Of the 24 sides left across the UEFA club competitions, United are the only team left that are unbeaten. They have now reached 10 European matches on the season, with a record of 6-4-0.

4 - Olympique Lyon ended up scoring the most goals in the round of 16, as they finished off FCSB 4-0 on the night and 7-1 on aggregate. As such, the Ligue 1 side are in their fourth UEL quarter-final, the most of all French clubs. These four appearances at this stage have come within their last five showings in the Europa League proper. They have only passed this stage once, back in 2016/17.
