According to Fabrizio Romano, a transfer market expert, and David Ornstein, a renowned journalist for The Athletic who is very reliable in the English market, the Cityzens have come back for the 23-year-old Spanish midfielder.
Romano confirmed that the English champions have already been given the green light to negotiate with the player after reaching an agreement to pay his 60 million euros release clause. Although the payment won't be made in cash - an installments structure os possible - the details of the deal remain to be seen.
Barcelona holds 40 percent of any gains above 8.4 million euros - the amount the Portuguese side paid to secure him - while Gestifute (the player's agency) gets a 10 percent commission. In this case, the Portistas would get 34.2 million euros. However, Porto can pay six million euros and lower the Blaugrana's clause to 20 percent, which could increase their cut of the Gonzalez deal to 43.8 million euros.

Incidentally, FC Porto travel to Vila do Conde this Monday to face Rio Ave, a match in which Nico was expected to start in new coach Martin Anselmi's side - although that now seems unlikely.
