Ghana defender Alidu Seidu says he is eager to “come back stronger” to repay the faith shown by Stade Rennais after the Ligue 1 side extended his contract until 2029.

This move comes as a significant boost to Seidu, who initially signed a four-year contract with Rennes in January 2024, set to expire in 2028.

Seidu's journey with Rennes began on a high note, as he quickly became an integral part of the team, earning the Player of the Month award in September 2024.

However, his promising season was abruptly halted when he suffered a severe ACL injury during a Ligue 1 match against Lille in November 2024.

The injury required surgery, and Seidu is expected to be sidelined for the remainder of the 2024/25 season.

Despite this setback, Rennes have shown incredible support for Seidu by extending his contract by one more year. Reflecting on this gesture, Seidu expressed his gratitude and motivation to even return in better shape.

“Having the opportunity to extend my contract with Stade Rennais after my long-term injury makes me happy," the defender told Flashscore in an exclusive interview.

"I’m very happy at this club and by extending my contract, they’ve showed me love and confidence. I am motivated to work harder to come back stronger to replicate the love by performing well on the pitch."

Five months after his injury, Seidu's recovery is progressing positively with the support of the club's physio and physical trainers. He is optimistic about returning to full fitness soon.

“My recovery is progressing well. The physio and the physical trainers are doing a very good job. My knee feels good and very soon I will start working on grass.”

The 24-year-old has played 26 games for Rennes since joining them in the 2023/23 winter transfer window from Clermont Foot.
